NDE Training Courses - Now Offered!

AREVA NP Nondestructive Examination Training Program: Knowledge is Power

As a world leader in commercial nuclear services, AREVA NP requires a robust program of training in order for its leaders and technicians to successfully inspect, repair, and maintain components of power generation facilities worldwide. Our technicians are trained in a variety of nondestructive examination (NDE) disciplines, including dye penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particle, ultrasonic and visual examination. The AREVA NP NDE training courses are based on the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10CFR50.55a), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, the American Society of Nondestructive Testing ASNT-TC-1A and ANSI/ASNT CP-189 guidelines. Other equally important nuclear industry standards, such as the EPRI Pressurized Water Reactor Steam Generator Examination Guidelines, are implemented as required to fulfill customer requirements.

AREVA NP recognizes that the sharing of vital information and inspection processes can benefit a broad spectrum of people and organizations within the nuclear power industry. As such, AREVA NP does not limit its courses to employees of AREVA NP. Whether representing utilities, contractors, or agencies, the attendees of an AREVA NP training course will gain insights and proficiencies enabling them to make a positive difference--for themselves, their employers, and the community.

All courses are presented by AREVA NP's training specialists who have met all of the standards of experience, education and instructor training as set forth by the nuclear industry. Courses consist of classroom, laboratory, and mock-up time as appropriate. Some of the courses are intended to lead to eventual certification and therefore meet industry code requirements, while others are less formal. All should prove valuable to the student.

TRAINING COURSES
Listed below are the current course offerings for NDE and related training. Classroom theory takes the student from the basic principals of physics for each NDE method through the application of select methodologies for finding and characterizing indications of flaws found during an examination. The laboratory portion of the training consists of using the theory learned in the classroom and applying it to detect and characterize flaws in mock-ups, while learning the use and care of the equipment for each NDE method.

The basic NDE courses combine the classroom and laboratory sessions giving students a “learn as you go” experience for those relatively simple to learn and use NDE methods, such as dye penetrant, magnetic particle and visual. For more complex courses, such as eddy current and ultrasonics, the training may be offered in separate classroom and laboratory sessions. AREVA NP also recommends combined classroom and laboratory packages for these methods since the “learn as you go” concept can be approached which reinforces each step of the theory by actually demonstrating the effects on real samples of engineering materials and mockups which contain real flaws.

In addition to the tailoring of class content to meet the specific goals of the student, AREVA NP can develop new courses as new needs are determined by prospective students. For instance, in the eddy current method, application specific training for array probe technologies, automated analysis, equipment maintenance, software applications, etc., can be offered. AREVA NP will quote a price for customer-specific course offerings upon request.

The primary site for training is AREVA NP's Mill Ridge Road facility in historic Lynchburg, Va. However, arrangements may be made to conduct classes at other customer locations or perhaps at your site aboard our mobile trailer. There is no pre-determined annual schedule for holding these classes and AREVA NP can plan a time for the courses that matches the needs of the students. Prices quoted below assume training at AREVA NP's facility. The standard minimum class size is five. For any questions or for course registration, please contact us via email at: NDEtrainingAdmins@areva.com.  We look forward to working with you.
