Construction experience

Project certainty: licensed and approved by the most demanding.
World-class licensing record

The design of the EPR complies with safety requirements formulated by the French and German safety authorities as well as the requirements of a group of the major European electricity generation companies, as laid down in a joint specification named the "European Utility Requirements". This specification was drawn up by electricity generation companies from Germany, Belgium, UK, Spain, Finland, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the Russia Federation and Sweden. The EPR design also takes into account the expectations the "Utility Requirements Document" issued by the U.S. Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
The EPR has already secured construction licenses from two of the world’s most demanding safety authorities in France and Finland and is currently in line for a Design Certificate and Combined Operating License (COL) in the USA, for a Design License in the UK (Generic Design Assessment) and for an operating license in China.
EPR is a reality

The EPR is the first Generation III+ reactor being built in the world. 4 EPRs are under construction:
on the site of Olkiluoto in Finland since end of 2005,
on the site of Flamanville in France since mid-2007,
on the site of Taishan in China since August 2008.

TVO in Finland and EDF in France will be the operating utilities. This construction experience will allow future other customers an improved feedback, in particular regarding construction time.
The EPR is also being considered by American utilities for the development of their generating capacity. The licensing process was launched December 2007. In the UK, the licensing process has been launched on October 2007.
