The direct descendant of N4 and KONVOI reactors

Civeaux NPP - France
|
|
The EPR is the direct descendant of the well proven N4 and KONVOI reactors operated in France and Germany. Its design is based on experience from several thousand reactor-years of light water reactor operation worldwide.
Its solid foundation in proven, familiar technologies offers a number of advantages:
Technical risks and associated financial impacts are minimized,
Operator expertise acquired at nuclear power plants using the same technology is maintained and its value increased,
Existing industrial capacities in design, engineering, equipment manufacturing, nuclear power plant construction and maintenance can be easily utilized to carry out new nuclear plant projects. This includes capacities resulting from previous technology transfers,
The EPR relies on a sound and proven technology,
It complies with the safety authorities' requirements for new nuclear plants,
EPR units benefit from AREVA and EDF long lasting, worldwide experience. This applies to fields as diverse as design and licensing, construction and commissioning, and operability and maintainability.
