Instrumentation & Control and Electrical Systems

Cutting-edge technology

In addition to process engineering, instrumentation & control and electrical systems constitute an important factor for safe and economic power generation. AREVA NP offers its customers a complete product package based on decades of experience.
One guiding principle of our activities is the protection of the enormous investments made by our customers for new equipment and modernization projects. The AREVA NP product package begins with consulting sessions and the performance of studies, and offers customers the required technical and economic planning safety. Customer benefit is also the motive force of our activities during the implementation phase. In addition to the design, planning, procurement and implementation of the new systems, AREVA NP offers its customers interface management – especially important for modernization projects – and support with licensing and approval issues. Electrical engineering and I&C modernization projects involve interfaces to process engineering - AREVA NP also has the nuclear engineering expertise required to offer management of these interfaces.

AREVA NP uses the TELEPERM XS digital system platform – the world market leader in safety I&C – for the implementation of safety-related systems. The suitability of TELEPERM XS for all safety-related systems has been verified in a wide variety of power plant types worldwide over the last ten years. An exchange of user experiences is possible at the TELEPERM XS User Group Meetings, which are held regularly.
AREVA NP also offers its customers technically and economically optimized solutions in the area of non-safety-related systems based on cooperation with suitable partners and the selection of appropriate technologies.

Plant Lifetime Management

The aging of electrical and I&C components, especially in the vicinity of the reactor, is determined by thermal, mechanical and radiological loads. The objective of plant life management is to determine the remaining service life of these components with a view to ensuring plant safety and availability. A quantitative aging management system which determines the remaining service life by means of component–oriented measurements, qualification parameters and suitable algorithms forms the basis for this procedure. The calculation and display of results are performed in the computer-assisted tool AUREST, which was developed by AREVA NP.
