Ling Ao nuclear plant

 In recent years, China has experienced considerable economic expansion and an average annual GDP growth rate of 10%, making it the world’s third-largest economy. Consequently, demand for electrical power has soared, increasing by 14% in 2006.
It is estimated that, by 2020, an extra 30 GWe of nuclear energy will be needed. This is the equivalent to the energy supplied by twenty 1500 MWe NPPs.
China currently has approximately 9 GWe of nuclear capacity, with 11 nuclear power plants generating 2% of the country’s electrical output.

AREVA in China
For more than 20 years, China has been developing nuclear technology to produce electricity, relying in particular on AREVA's skill and know-how.
The group has contributed to the construction of nine of the eleven NPPs units in operation
Front-End Division
In the field of fuel design and manufacturing, AREVA NP has been working in partnership with the Yibin fuel plant for several years. The first technology transfer program started in 1991 with the AFA 2G fuel assembly. It was later extended to cover the AFA 3G technology.
Today Yibin supplies all the fuel reloads for the Daya Bay, Qinshan and Ling Ao perssurized water reactor.
Reactors & Services Division
 AREVA NP supplied the nuclear islands for four 1,000 MWe PWR reactors at Daya Bay and Ling Ao as well as the technology and components for four more reactors at Qinshan phase II, Quinshan Phase I and Tianwan plants (2x600 MWe PWRs, 1x300 Mwe and 2x1,000 MWe VVERs respectively).
Since 1992, AREVA NP has been involved in the localization program for equipment manufacturing, in particular for the construction of Qinshan phase II and Ling Ao power plants.

In a move to step up its production of nuclear energy, the Chinese authorities have recently decided to duplicate the nuclear units on a number of new and existing sites. AREVA has won several contracts for the extension of the Ling Ao plant and will be supplying the primary loops, in association with Chinese companies (manufacture of primary cooling pumps, AREVA Dondfang), and digital I&C systems.
It will also be providing nuclear services through the Shenzen Nuclear Engineering joint-venture and technical support services for the Chinese institutes charged with designing the nuclear steam supply system and the nuclear island.
 On November 26th, 2007, AREVA signed a historic agreement for the nuclear power industry.
AREVA, in conjunction with CGNPC :
will build two new generation EPR reactors and,
will provide all the materials and services required to operate them.
The EPR will be built in Taishan in Guangdong province.

Transmission & Distribution Division
The Transmission and Distribution Division is one of China's main suppliers for high and medium voltage switgears and protection and control equipment:
Leader in dry-type transformers (through the Sunten Electric Co. Ltd. joint-venture),
Manufacture of medium-voltage switches,
Construction of a plant to produice medium voltage disconnectors,
creation of a researche center (in collaboration with the Uiversité of Tsinghua).
