Cerca fabricates and supplies fuel elements for research reactors

Research reactor
CERCA, a wholly-owned AREVA NP subsidiary, fabricates and supplies fuel elements for research reactors and has developed all the associated services such as transport (CERCA cask) and the supply of low enriched uranium.
With activities located in Romans and Pierrelatte in the south-east of France, CERCA is world leader of the research reactor fuel supply market: 25 types of fuel design have been delivered to 40 countries (Japan, Canada, USA, the whole of Europe and, in the near future, Australia and South Africa), including TRIGA fuel types.

Superconducting cavities
With 60 percent of the world market, CERCA also supplies medical uranium targets which are irradiated to produce  99Mo (the isotope used in medical applications for cancer diagnosis).
CERCA's experience dates back to 1957 when it began fabricating fuel for test and research reactors. Since 1978, CERCA has been developing high density fuels (firstly silicide and now molybdenum).

CERCA's mechanical department also supplies high technology mechanical devices and associated services for high-energy physics, research applications and the nuclear industry.

Tle Radioactivity Standards Laboratory

CERCA is equally well-known as a leader in the production of radioactive reference sources for industry, medicine and research and has its own Radioactivity Standards Laboratory, the LEA.

CERCA also offers associated services such as the supply, installation and return of used radioactive sources.

Research reactor TRIGA

TRIGA, an inherently safe nuclear research reactor used for training, research and the production of radioisotopes, was designed and built  by the General Atomic Division of General Dynamics Corp. in San Diego, California (U.S.).
Founded in 1995, it is operated under a joint venture, in which CERCA and General Atomics both have a 50% share, located in Romans since 1996. Over the years, TRIGA (Training, Research, Isotope Production, General Atomic) has evolved into the world's most widely used research reactor, with an installed base of 65 reactors in 24 countries on five continents.
