Engineering and Design Authority

The Engineering & Design Authority provides its expertise to operators to reinforce the safety of existing Nuclear Steam Supply Systems and is innovating to design the reactors of tomorrow.

Scope

Be the designer and manufacturer of Nuclear Steam Supply Systems for nuclear power plants: design, performance, operation, and dimensioning of equipment

Carry out studies for the justification and certification of Nuclear Steam Supply Systems and their components

Design solutions to meet the needs of operators in the different areas of nuclear engineering.

  • 1. The Engineering & Design Authority provides its expertise to operators to reinforce the safety of existing Nuclear Steam Supply Systems and is innovating to design the reactors of tomorrow

The Engineering and Design Authority provides engineering studies for the design and justification of nuclear steam supply systems on all reactor types : Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR), Boiling Water Reactor (BWR),  the future generation of reactors  (GENIV) and components such as reactor pressure vessel, reactor pressure vessel heads, internals, steam generators, pressuirzers…

The Engineering and Design Authority works on tailor made solutions to:

    • reinforce safety
    • extend lifetime operation
    • generate oerational savings
    • shutdown reactors
    • develop transverse systems engineering  tools and methods and modeling tools for future reactors.
  • 2. Technical authority supporting operators
    • The Engineering and Design Authority supports operators to manage relations with the safety authorities related to the licensing of NSSSs.
    • It also provides its technical expertise to comply with the regulation on the French nuclear pressure equipment regulation (ESPN).
  • 3. Research and Development, technical centers and test facilities

The Engineering and Design Authority is in charge of the technical Research and Development (R&D) to offer ever safer and innovative solutions on:

    • Development of tests, methods and key technology solutions
    • Component qualification services

Technical Center serves as the bridge from basic research to industrial application with main focus on basic technologies organized in the four technology lines:

    • materials, corrosion, welding
    • chemistry and radiochemistry
    • qualification of components
    • thermal hydraulic testing and systems and components testing
