Vos missions

The basic mission of the Department Manager is to lead the Materials and Thermal-mechanics Europe department within the European Platform of the Fuel BU engineering division (FD-E).

This mission requires a proven successful leadership and management skillset and the capability to operate efficiently in a multi-cultural and high-technical-level environment.

The department is in charge of the following activities:

  • Develop and license materials (Zr alloys, Ni-based alloys, Steels, Ceramics) for fuel assemblies and core component
  • Support manufacturing activities
  • Perform thermal-mechanical fuel rod design analyses
  • Support product licensing and safety analyses involving fuel rod in class-3 and class-4 conditions.
  • Develop, qualify and maintain scientific codes, methods and databases to conduct the design and licensing activities in the field of materials and thermal-mechanics

The Department Manager is a major contributor to the customer satisfaction by fulfilling the customer requests and by ensuring Operational Excellence (In-Quality, in-Time and In-Budget delivery) of his/her respective engineering teams.

He/she has the following key responsibilities:

  • Within Competence and People Management Process

Lead the PDA and people development process and implement actions concerning competence and knowledge management

Implement recruitment plan, training actions and provide the required resources according to the budget and the competence action plan and work force planning

  • Within S&OP Process

Manage recruitments in accordance with the yearly budget targets

Manage resource allocation within their department and escalate arbitration needs when no internal solution can be found to supply all customers with the requested workload

Promote and facilitate task / resource mobility between the various expertise areas and the platforms to increase overall flexibility within FD

Be responsible for the budget

  • Within Operational Excellence

Implement and maintain Operational Excellence rules, tools and standards on Quality, Planning and Continuous Improvement (Flow and Waste)

Ensure that all work is executed in compliance with quality and regulatory standards as well as legal obligations

  • Within Customer Satisfaction and Business Development

Manage the interface with the FC Division for contract execution and audits

Executing the work to meet due dates and full quality deliveries to the customers

Promote the development of new engineering services

The Department Manager reports operationally to the European Platform Senior Manager. 

Key figures of the Department:

  • 80 engineers
  • 2 sites (Lyon in France and Erlangen in Germany)
  • 7 Groups (i.e sections or teams)
  • 1 Operations manager in Erlangen (local manager)

Vous êtes

Holder of a Bac+5 (Engineering school, Master or PhD) in the fields of engineering and preferably mechanics, you have at least 10 to 15 years of professional experience acquired in a wide technological field and complex environment involving engineering activities.

You have a first successful experience of minimum 5 years as manager of an engineering team. You have a good knowledge and understanding of fuel materials and thermal-mechanics topics.

You are recognized for your inter-personal skills in an international environment, your ability to motivate and develop the skills of your team members. You understand the problems of customers, and how to address them within an engineering department.
