AREVA NP presents applications for HoloLens virtual reality headset during Microsoft Experiences ‘17

AREVA NP’s Installed Base BU teams have been participating in the Microsoft Experiences ’17 days in Paris. This event, which attracts more than 4, 000 visitors each year, was organized around three themes: artificial intelligence, digital trust and new ways of working.

AREVA NP presented the work done by the Installed Base BU teams on Microsoft's mixed reality headset, the HoloLens, a project that forms part of the development of tools to assist site operators. Based on the provision of documents and multimedia content, it has two applications: training, and assistance for operating teams. The core aims? Improving occupational safety, performance and the quality of operations.

2018: first trial implementation at a nuclear site

Tests on level-1 equipment under real working conditions will be carried out in the first half of 2018 at the AREVA NP training center. The trial use of this equipment in a nuclear plant is also scheduled for 2018. The results of these tests will make it possible to assess the roll-out of its use to all maintenance activities by 2019.

As Yves André, the Head of Development and the Digital Transformation for Installed Base in France explained: "Our collaboration with Microsoft on this project enables us to access new technologies that can revolutionize our business model and bring new opportunities. Its success also depends on collaborating with the operators of nuclear plants, as has been done with EDF for several years now.”
